After giving up five earned runs in one inning of work in his MLB debut, Yoshinobu Yamamoto now holds an ERA of 45.00.
Boomer says it is another piece of evidence that the ERA needs to be calculated in an updated way.
"It's not realistic to think in terms of nine innings anymore," Boomer said, noting how rare it is for starting pitchers to go a full 27 outs anymore.
"Nobody ever pitches nine innings. Why don't we readjust the ERA? I would take every major league starting pitcher and average the amount of innings they go, and then you build the ERA off of that."
