Boomer and Gio were live on air when the Bengals announced that Boomer was receiving the well-deserved honor of being inducted into the franchise’s Ring of Honor.

The ceremony will take place at halftime in Cincinnati on Sept. 25 against the Rams, as Boomer will go into the Ring of Honor alongside wide receiver Chad Johnson.

“Wow, that’s amazing,” Boomer said after being congratulated by Gio and the rest of the Morning Show crew. “It’s kind of surreal, actually. It was 39 years ago that I was drafted by the Bengals. Feels like another lifetime ago…I’m honored, and certainly feel very privileged to say I will be in Paul Brown Stadium. My name’s gonna be up there. that’s pretty cool.”

Boomer played 10 seasons with the Bengals, won the MVP in 1988, leading Cincy to the Super Bowl that season. He won a passing title and still ranks third all time in franchise history in passing yards and passing touchdowns.

“It’s something that irked me for many years, that I would go to Monday Night games and see all these guys on these other organizations getting honored for being a part of that organization’s history, and linking fans together. Today’s fans and yesterday’s fans,” Boomer said. “Our time in Cincinnati was wild, for sure, on the field. We had a lot of great players, and a lot of them who are certainly worthy of the same honor.

“I am humbled and grateful, and it feels kind of cool, actually.”

After Boomer gave his initial reaction, Gio immediately began asking for plans for the induction, whether the show would travel to Cincinnati together and do the show on site, and how they would get there.

“Can you give me like five minutes to process this?” Boomer said.
