Boomer’s trip back home after Sunday’s AFC title game was an eventful one, as he, Bill Cowher, and Nate Burleson had a run-in with an angry fan that could have gotten physical.
Waiting to leave on the ACELA from Baltimore, Boomer recalled a fan coming up to them to let them know his thoughts on the NFL being rigged, and getting into it with Cowher.
“A couple people come over, pleasantries, ‘Nice to see you,’ and by the way, the Ravens fans couldn’t have been nicer and this situation for the most part, except for one total asswipe douchebag. As we’re sitting there, this guy decides to come over and say ‘Hey, nice to meet you, good to see you guys.’ I’m trying to watch the game, coach is trying to watch the game, Nate is over at the bathroom…he walks back and sits down right across from us, and then he decides he’s gonna come back and talk to us about how the NFL is rigged, and is using colorful language.
“Coach decides to get into some sort of discussion with him. Coach is awesome. He’ll defend the NFL, like ‘I don’t want to hear this crap from some drunk-ass fan who just lost a bet.’ I understand. I know he’s a Hall of Famer and will die with that shield.
“I look over to the guy sitting next to me, and I’m like ‘Do you see what’s going on here? Are you aware of what might happen here in a second? Did we do anything to incite this guy or even bring this guy over here to have him talk to my friend this way? If he gets any closer, I might have to get up and effing smash this guy right in the face.’ I’m pissed off now. I’m trying to watch the game, and this guy is screaming talking about how the NFL is rigged.”
Burleson came over to defend Cowher, and luckily, the situation was diffused and Boomer made his way back to New York without having to put the crazed fan in his place.
