Brian Flores' lawsuit against the NFL and all 32 teams now looms over the anticipation for Super Bowl weekend, as the former Dolphins head coach aims to bring about change across the league, as he sees the Rooney Rule as something being used by teams to "check a box."
Flores has also accused Dolphins ownership of offering him money to lose games for better draft picks, and while teams, and the league, have already released statements denying his claims, Boomer applauded Flores' methods for trying to change the status quo.
"Brian Flores has a big set of brass balls if you ask me," Boomer said Thursday morning. "He's basically putting himself out there and illuminating things that he believes are wrong in the NFL.
"There may be many people out there that disagree with him, but you don't walk in his shoes. You don't know what it's like to be a coach of a team that has back-to-back winning records, and all of a sudden, his entire reputation is being raked over the coals after they let him go."
Flores has since spoken publicly about his lawsuit, which calls out teams for racial discrimination in their hiring processes, and former Browns head coach Hue Jackson is reportedly joining the lawsuit, claiming Cleveland also incentivized losing in 2016 and 2017.
"If you're going through that situation - you, as a human being, are gonna be pissed," Boomer said. "If this particular lawsuit sees the light of day, which it will, because I don't think Brian Flores is in it for money…I really believe he is in it to try and change the system, and to make sure sham interviews don't happen."
The Giants were mentioned specifically in Flores' lawsuit, claiming that New York conducted its head coaching interview with Flores days after already deciding on Brian Daboll, which Flores backs up with accidental texts from Bill Belichick. Boomer can't confirm what really happened there, but clearly believes Flores' lawsuit is a bold move that will continue to be widely discussed.
"I really don't know if this is a sham interview or not, because I don't know when Brian Daboll accepted the job," Boomer said. "Who knows if Belichick and Daboll have the same agent, maybe that's how Belichick got the information."
