Boomer tries to make sense of Jets/Giants ugliness: 'Never seen anything like it'

Gio called the Jets/Giants ugliness a "horror movie," and Boomer didn't disagree.

Reacting to the overtime win by Gang Green on Monday morning, Boomer couldn't believe the Jets even needed a miracle fourth-quarter drive and overtime to beat a Giants team that had third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito in the game for the second half.

"The fact that you almost lost to a team that had -9 yards passing, and didn't even attempt a pass until overtime with their third-string quarterback, I've never seen that," Boomer said. "I'm telling you, I've never seen anything like it.

"Morestead, the punter for the Jets, was the MVP of the game! My god, 24 punts and 23 points. Twenty four punts and 23 points! I mean come on, it's unbelievable!"

While the Jets came away with the win, it certainly wasn't the "squash spot" that Boomer envisioned in the week leading up to the game. In fact, he believed the Giants deserved to win, if there had to be a winner. In reality, both teams played like they should have lost.

"So many things that bad football teams do in situations like this, and both teams had their opportunities to make the crucial mistake at the wrong time," Boomer said. "The Giants ended up leading in that category at the end of the game.

"You almost lost to a team that had -9 yards passing. Negative nine yards! You gotta be kidding me!"
