The NFL has met to discuss the rule of a touchback for the opponent if a team fumbles the ball in the back of the end zone, and Boomer can only hope it leads to a change.
"I hate the rule," Boomer said. "The offense, if they have the ball and fumble it through the end zone, the defense gets the ball. They never possessed it, but they just get the ball. I hate that.
"If the offense fumbles the ball on the one-inch line, it's their ball on the one-inch line. If the ball goes over the goal line and out of bounds, it's now the other team's ball on the 20 going the other way. What are we doing? The defense is getting its ass kicked going all the way down the field…and you're giving the ball to the defense. Why?"
Sadly, Boomer doesn't have a lot of hope that the change will happen, though, if he were part of the competition committee, he would loudly advocate for the rule to be tweaked.
"I thought it was gonna change. Fans hate it. Players hate it," Boomer said. "There's gotta be some sort of compromise. I just think it's too much of a penalty for the offensive team."
