BT & Sal ponder biggest trade deadline moves in New York sports history

With the NFL trade deadline arriving Tuesday afternoon, BT and Sal looked back at some of their most memorable deadline moves in New York sports.

For BT, he began with a pair of moves made during the last glory days of Yankees baseball, starting with the deal to acquire David Justice before the deadline in 2000. Justice was a force in the Bombers' ALCS win over the Mariners, driving in eight runs in the six-game series, including a dramatic three-run blast in the clinching game six.

BT also remembered another deadline move that helped begin that Yankee dynasty.

"I was pumped when they got Cecil Fielder," BT said, noting the move to acquire the first base slugger in the summer of 1996. "He didn't do a ton, but he was good in the World Series (Fielder hit .391 with a .918 OPS in 25 plate appearances in that Fall Classic)."

Sal remembered the Mets trading for Shawon Dunston in 1999, a move that helped spark a run to the NLCS after he hit .344 down the stretch of the regular season. But perhaps his most memorable was the 1993-94 Rangers, who acquired the likes of Craig MacTavish, Glenn Anderson, and Steve Larmer en route to the franchise's last Stanley Cup.

BT wrapped it up with a move made in June of 1983, which he believes may still be the biggest trade in New York sports during his lifetime.

"When the Mets got Keith Hernandez, is it the most impactful trade ever made?" BT said. "It changed everything about the Mets."
