BT & Sal: Is Subway Series more important to Yankees or Mets?
The Subway Series has arrived, and BT and Sal are locked in and ready to watch the battle of New York when the Mets and Yankees duke it out in Queens on Tuesday night.
The series seemed to be in danger of having no juice just a month ago, as the Yanks were rolling and the Mets were floundering. But now, the Mets have been the best team in baseball since the start of June, and the Yankees have lost three straight series while battling key injuries.
So, which team needs this series more? BT and Sal are split.
"I look at this Subway Series and the energy and emotion and fun that it entails," BT said. "The Yankees, even though they have a much better record than the Mets, the Yankees need this series more."
Sal says the Mets need it more, as it will help provide a statement to themselves, the city, and the rest of baseball that their hot streak is for real.
"It brings credibility to what they're doing here. Do it against the Yankees," Sal said. "I know they've beaten some decent teams…but go out there and show you can compete.
"They need to win at least one game, and be competitive in both games…the Yankees right now are vulnerable. Anything less than winning the series would be unacceptable for a team that expects to be a playoff team."
