The Super Bowl is just days away, and BT says the Chiefs should be America's team right now.
"America should be rooting for the Chiefs," BT said to open Friday's show.
Why should the nation be pulling for Kansas City? Because America likes a GOAT, and with Tom Brady now retired (again), Patrick Mahomes is the next candidate to step into those shoes and give the sports world an additional topic of conversation over who is the greatest.
"Somewhere in the last 10-12ish kind of years, as a sporting society, the average fan no longer gravitates just to the game," BT said. "It's gotta be about the other stuff…the other stuff has become conversation and debated crafted around the GOAT, which is completely played out. We know.
"I'm here to tell you: it's early, clearly, but if Patrick Mahomes wins, that's now two, he's young, he starts getting a little deeper into the pool, a little closer to Brady, still away, but a little closer. A little closer to Joe [Montana]."
The GOAT debates reached a fever pitch once LeBron James started winning championships, and The King was exhaustively compared to Michael Jordan, and still is, especially now after he set the league's scoring record earlier this week. But BT says regardless of how tiring it could get, the sports world needs that kind of debate, and Mahomes will begin to provide it if he hoists another Lombardi trophy.
"America needs another sporting icon, and Mahomes could be the guy again this weekend," BT said. "It's big."
