John in Bergen County pushed the wrong button on BT.

John, in response to BT’s criticism of Francisco Lindor struggling when the Mets were still fighting to turn their season around, brought up the fact that Don Mattingly never won a title in his entire career with the Yankees, and only reached the postseason in the final year of his career.

BT wasn’t having it, not when it comes to his guy Donnie Baseball.

“John, this is the most - it’s a pit bull versus a poodle at this point - I can’t waste my time,” BT said. “This is just so pathetic. You call about Lindor, you go to Mattingly, who was three times the player Lindor is. I’m not gonna yell, it might be entertaining. That was the dumbest call I’ve ever gotten. That was just asinine right there. What in the world was that? Mattingly?

“You can take that call, and you can just disappear forever.
That was the worst call in the history of sports radio.”

Mattingly went off in his only postseason series, posting an average over .400 and an OPS over 1.000 in what would be a heartbreaking five-game series with the Mariners in the 1995 ALDS. So, the Yankee legend showed he could shine when the team needed him most, even at the tail end of his career when his back issues were worse than ever.

Still, Sal needed to get a nudge in and tease his co-host.

“The year after Mattingly left,” Sal said. “The Yankees went on this dynasty run.”
