BT: Yankees, Mets entering what will be 'darkest baseball period in our lifetime'

Brandon Tierney is not bullish on the future of New York baseball at this point.

With the Yankees stumbling towards their worst season in 30 years, while being tied down by bad contracts, and the Mets selling several assets to signal quitting on what will likely be the most disappointing season in their history, BT says New York is about to slide into a dark period not seen in a long time.

"We are in the earliest stage in what will go down, jointly, as the darkest baseball period in our lifetime," BT said. "I see no hope."

When was the last dark period in New York baseball? It may have been in the early 1990s, when the Mets endured three straight losing seasons from 1991-1993, highlighted by "The Worst Team Money Can Buy," while the Yankees were losers from 1990 through 1992, never winning more than 76 games. Aside from that time, you have to go back to the late 1960s, when the Mets were mired in losing seasons before the Miracle Mets of 1969, and the post-Mickey Mantle Yankees were enduring three straight losing seasons from 1965 to 1967.

BT believes another era like that is on the way.

"Not only is it the roster, it's also the circumstances," BT said. "The Yankees' finances, those are their circumstances…but the Mets, the Mets have no rotation. The last time they bought arms, both guys are gone."
