C-Mac and C-Lo - NOT turkey guys?
Thanksgiving is colloquially known as Turkey Day, so here's a hot take from our resident son-in-law of a restaurant owner (as opposed to Evan, son-in-law of a chef): we should stop eating turkey on Thanksgiving?
"I know people get upset with my turkey take, and that is what it is – but I'm not wrong. Nobody likes it," Chris McMonigle said. "Everybody talks about it like it's the greatest meal of the year – oh, we can't wait for Turkey Day!"
"It's not extremely flavorful, it is what it is: meat," C-Lo agreed. "And it's not about the turkey, it's all the other stuff."
Richie in Franklin Square, C-Mac's hometown, called in and invited Chris to come over for his 24-hour brined smoked turkey, which has everyone wanting leftovers, and all hell broke loose.
"That might give it a little extra flavor, because normally it's just kind of there. That's why you have to put the gravy or cranberry sauce with it, because otherwise it's just kind of bland. Even for deli meat on a lunch sandwich, I'd rather have smoked than oven roasted or anything.
"If you have smother it in gravy, than it's not worthy of being a holiday meal main course," C-Mac added. "People are like, oh, I put oranges and onions in its crevice – might as well shove a bag of peanut M&Ms in there! Whatever they do, it's still just turkey! If it was delicious, we'd have it more than once a year."
McMonigle's favorite meal is the Christmas Eve feast of fish (yes, McMonigle, very Italian), and 'if it was less expensive,' he'd eat lobster or shrimp cocktail more often, too. But turkey? No thanks.
"Any time you go to a nice restaurant, you get a fried calamari or something – no one ever orders the smoked turkey!" C-Mac said. "It's not even on the menu, man! It's not even an option anywhere!"
McMonigle is also a gummy candy enthusiast, which made C-Lo say 'something soft over hard,' and, well, you can tell where this went…
