C-Mac: Give me heartbreaking end to season over irrelevancy every time

After the Phillies lost game seven to the Diamondbacks in the NLCS, Gio declared that Mets fans had a better year than Philly fans, opining that it is better to be emotionally detached in a lost season than to have your heart broken by being shocked deep in the playoffs by a team your team should beat.

C-Mac couldn't disagree more, noting the Yankees run in 2001 as being the most heartbreaking ending imaginable (which came at the hands of the Diamondbacks as well), yet still well worth it.

"For me, the most heartbreaking thing I ever experienced with the Yankees was 2001," C-Mac said. "Everything that happened with 9/11 that year, down 0-2 against Oakland and winning that series, the miraculous home runs with Tino Martinez and Scott Brosius, they have Mariano Rivera on the mound in game seven…the game is over. To have it end like that was absolutely gut-wrenching and heartbreaking, but would I rather watch this slop now and feel like the season is over out of the All-Star break? No. I would rather have that moment, waking up and saying 'Wow, game seven is tonight.'

"I know walking out of that building sucks…but they had great moments. That city and that team had a brief- and it should have went on longer - but that ballpark was legitimately a thing. That was a talking point of this postseason…they had a great run. It sucks it ended when it did."

So, between knowing your season is over by August or making a deep playoff run that ends in heartbreak, C-Mac says the choice is an easy one.

"Why would I want to sit through half a miserable season knowing there isn't a second half of baseball? Just so I can avoid the pain?" C-Mac said. "That's weak. Weak sauce."
