C-Mac: Pete Alonso is a premier slugger, but he's no Aaron Judge
With Pete Alonso participating in another Home Run Derby, C-Mac has heard from multiple fans declaring that the Mets slugger is a better home run hitter than Aaron Judge, a former Derby champ himself from his historic rookie season in 2017.
C-Mac says those declarations are way off the mark, as Judge is the clear home run king in New York, and in the league as a whole.
"Pete Alonso is a premier slugger. No doubt, he's one of the best home run hitters in baseball," C-Mac said. "If you want to say he's hit more home runs than Judge since he entered the league in 2019, I can't argue that. He has, but Judge has been hurt. That's the fact of the matter. Right now, Judge is almost doubling Alonso in home runs this year. Alonso is a great slugger. He's one of the best home run hitters in the league. He doesn't compare to Aaron Judge in any way, shape or form, including power."
Alonso broke Judge's rookie home run record in 2019 with 53 bombs, and has been one of the best in baseball in that department ever since. But C-Mac says Judge, when healthy, is the best of the best.
"If Judge is healthy, he's hitting 50-60 home runs a year. He's got 32 already," C-Mac said. "Alonso is a slugger and deserves to be in the Home Run Derby, but the best home run hitter in baseball bar none? Come on. Judge has hit 62, and he'll probably hit around 55 this year."
