C-Mac underwhelmed with Yankees, Mets trade deadline performances: 'Bare minimum'
C-Mac recognizes that the Yankees and Mets both addressed some clear needs at the trade deadline, but ultimately, he didn't come away overly impressed by either team as both prepare a push for the postseason.
"Underwhelming for me for both teams," C-Mac said. "I don't think the Mets did anything that really separated them from everybody else. They added, they're better today than they were yesterday, and that's it.
"Same with the Yankees. Bare minimum…that's not an all-in year. That's not a 'Who knows about Juan Soto, so we have to stack the deck.'"
With that in mind, C-Mac says that the consolation for Yankee fans hoping for a big move is that the Yanks are likely preparing to go all in on Juan Soto this winter, which could be why they declined to take on significant payroll in a year where they are perceived to be an all-in team.
"With the way the Yankees handled this, I think if they really believed they had no chance…I think they know they are willing to give big-time money to Juan Soto," C-Mac said. "If they know it's a one-year thing…I think they would have tried to capitalize on it.
"I think they think they have a really good chance and will pay big-time money to keep him, and to make that work, you play the kids and don't trade them…the only way to make it happen is if you have young, controllable pieces playing at every other position."
