Carton & Roberts first semester grades for Yankees, Mets: One team gets universal F

At the quarter mark of the MLB season (now just past it), the Carton and Roberts crew gave out first semester grades for both the Yankees and Mets, who each have dealt with their share of trials so far in 2023.

For the Mets, the grading was unanimous: it’s an F.

“They suck,” Evan said.

Craig’s F grade for the Mets came with a caveat, that Pete Alonso gets an A, but the rest of the team gets a failing grade. Evan said his team should just get an F all around, but despite that, there is plenty of reason to remain invested.

“The Mets get an F, but what’s amazing, and what’s the one, tiny thing that gives me hope, is that even in losing this game…they haven’t won a series since Max got suspended, is that the Mets are only a game out of a Wild Card spot,” Evan said. “That gives me hope. They haven’t buried themselves, despite how awful they’ve played.

“The whole freaking goal is to make the playoffs. So yeah it’s an F, the team is a disaster, yeah, there are big things to worry about, but they’re right there.”

As for the Yankees, C-Mac gave a B-, while Craig gave an overall grade of a B, but an A+ to Aaron Boone for navigating the injury wave.

As for Evan, he repeated his Mets refrain for the Yanks.

“Whatever grade you want to give them, if the season ended today, they’re in the postseason,” Evan said. “That’s the whole goal of the season, to get there.”
