Carton & Roberts take vax mandate rollback to task: 'What about the city workers?'

Boomer Esiason was right, and so Evan Roberts apologized for doubting him about the vaccine mandates in NYC being rolled back for athletes - doing so while wearing Boomer's Bengals jersey.

But, much like Tiki Barber had earlier, Evan and Craig Carton had some issues with the way Mayor Eric Adams' press conference about the restriction rollback took place, and how it affects people who aren't performers, athletes, or entertainers that either had to get vaccinated or lose/lost their jobs when they went into place.

"Were celebrating a decision that lets financially stable people go to work, but at the same time, we don't let blue collar New Yorkers go back to work - and I can't help that I'm bothered by that," Craig said. "What troubles me is today's announcement was the right thing - the mandate is idiotic - but they should have done both; they should have recognized we're in a good place now in regards to COVID, and allowed everybody to come back to work."

As Craig noted, many of those in the latter bucket don't have a voice, so he posited an idea: perhaps Kyrie Irving, even though he's finally eligible, should sit out Sunday's game at Barclays Center to make a statement for them.

Craig also had issue with the fact that the press conference was held at Citi Field - "don't you dare invoke the memory of Jackie Robinson for something like this," he said - and that's when Evan chimed in.

"I got a DM last night from a guy hwo had inside info they were going to make the announcement as Citi Field," Evan said, "and I thought there was no way this Mayor could be that tone-deaf. I can't believe they thought that was a good idea! TO make it a spectacle when you're not including common New Yorkers, that makes absolutely no sense. Everything about it was weird."
