Craig Carton called in to the Evan and Tiki show on Thursday to talk about the developing story involving Shohei Ohtani and his interpreter, and said it’s hard to believe that Ohtani was completely oblivious to $4.5 million being taken out of his account.

“I find it very hard to believe this current narrative of what has allegedly taken place, and I think the advisors to Shohei Ohtani have done him a tremendous disservice on changing the story so quickly, after they were the ones to put his interpreter in front of reporters for well over an hour,” Craig said.

“It’s one thing to try and convince the public that Shohei Ohtani is completely clueless about his finances and money coming in and out of his account…but when you come out an hour later and say that not only did Shohei Ohtani not help his friend out and help him out of his gambling debt, but the money was stolen from his account. That is the complete polar opposite of the original story, and they’re the ones that orchestrated it.”

Craig added that baseball fans can now only hope that Ohtani indeed had nothing to do with his interpreter’s gambling, and that there wasn’t any bets placed on baseball, or else the sport would be forced to lose its biggest star.

“I’m not naïve enough to think there is all this smoke but no fire,” Craig said. “I think over the course of the next couple weeks, maybe months, as the federal investigators start to look into this…they’re not gonna leave any stone unturned. God forbid there is a single bet - I don’t care who made it - on baseball, you now have the most prominent athlete in the world, who happens to be a baseball player, who is not allowed to play baseball anymore, if that is the case.”
