Devils, Rangers' games against Ottawa postponed due to Senators' COVID outbreak

The New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils got an extra day off this week under tough circumstances: their scheduled games against the Ottawa Senators have been postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak in the Senators organization.

The Devils were scheduled to host the Senators on Tuesday, while the Blueshirts were set to visit Ottawa Saturday night. New Jersey and New York had just played each other on Sunday, with the Blueshirts taking a 4-3 overtime win at Madison Square Garden.

Ottawa currently has 10 players in COVID protocols, forcing postponements of these two games as well as their scheduled game against Nashville on Thursday.

The Rangers now have a day off in the midst of a heavy week where they are set to play the Canadiens at MSG Tuesday, then heard to Toronto to play the Maple Leafs Thursday before coming back home to play Buffalo on Sunday.
The Ottawa game was supposed to be their second of two in Canada, but now, they will have two days off between the Leafs and Sabres instead of a Sens-Sabres back to back.

The Devils now will not play until Thursday, when they begin a two-game road trip to the Sunshine State for games against the Panthers (Thursday) and Lightning (Saturday).
