Could Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith be foreshadowing what’s to come in next Thursday’s NFL Draft?
The Alabama wide receiver was in attendance for the Crimson Tide spring game sporting apparel from recently retired Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman.
Edelman even shouted out Smith on Twitter.
Smith, who was the first wide receiver to win the Heisman Trophy since Desmond Howard in 1991, was likely just showing respect to Edelman — a three-time Super Bowl champion and MVP of Super Bowl LIII.
It is hard to imagine that Smith would fall down to the Patriots with the No. 15 pick in the draft and if New England trades up, it will most likely be for a quarterback.
But the team is in need of receiver help, especially with Edelman gone, and Smith is as talented as they come at the position.
Of course, Smith was also wearing a black Yankees cap and the New York Giants have reportedly been linked with interest in the Alabama wideout as well.
There is probably no correlation in either instance, but with a week-and-a-half until the draft everyone is trying to look for hints at every possible angle – even if it is a bit of a stretch.
