Both New York football teams are caught in tight playoff races, a pleasant surprise for both teams given the preseason expectations each squad came in with.
But Evan Roberts isn't feeling too optimistic about the postseason chances for the Jets or Giants with four games to go.
"Right now, I'd say neither," Evan said when asked which local teams will make the playoffs this year.
"My concern with the Jets is that winning three of four is not a guarantee to make the playoffs. They win three out of four, is that enough to finish ahead of the Chargers? I say no. If the Chargers win three out of four, it's a tie and they have the tiebreaker."
The Jets have two straight home games upcoming, starting with a surging Lions team and continuing with an improving Jaguars squad before finishing up with two tough road tests against the Lions and Jaguars. Based on Gang Green's competition for those final playoff spots, Evan isn't very hopeful.
"Now you have the Patriots. They have to go 2-2 in their last four…it's on the fence," Evan said. "If the Jets go 3-1, but the loss is to Miami. They beat Seattle, they beat Jacksonville, they bet Detroit. Do they finish ahead of Miami? If the Jets finish with the same record as Miami but Miami wins Week 18, Miami has the tiebreaker."
For the Giants, much of their playoff hopes will come down to Sunday night against Washington, but Craig believes Big Blue will win that crucial game, yet still miss the playoffs. Meanwhile, he thinks the Jets find a way to end their playoff drought.
"I think the Jets make the playoffs as the seventh seed," Craig said. "I think the Giants beat Washington on Sunday, and don't win another game."
