Craig Carton announced that he will be leaving WFAN at the end of the month, and his co-host had one immediate thought as Craig revealed the news to open Thursday’s Carton and Roberts.
“The Mets win a freaking game, and you gotta take all the attention away??” Evan said.
Of course, Evan was joking (we think), but he offered his heartfelt farewell to his co-host, who he has shared the afternoon show with for nearly three years.
“I’m not gonna miss you, because I’ll see you. I’ll probably talk to you more often than you realize,” Evan said. “So it’s not that. I’m gonna miss the four hours with you, because it’s been very enjoyable.
“I thought, after Joe retired, it was gonna be very difficult to find a partner where I had fun and the show was successful. I worked with Joe for 14 years. I can honestly say…I’ve genuinely had a great time, and to have a great time while also having success is a great marriage.”
Craig and Evan looked back on when they first got together to discuss hosting the afternoon show together, and how it evolved into the success it is today. Carton and Roberts will be ending on June 30, but their friendship won’t, with some boundaries of course.
“I’m gonna miss you,” Evan said. “Does this mean we hug now?”
“No,” Craig replied.
