Evan: If Chiefs moved to Long Island, team would 'sell out every game'

After a stadium sales tax vote failed in Jackson County, the future of the Chiefs and Royals in Kansas City is suddenly in question, to the point where the mayor of Dallas has already made a pitch for the defending Super Bowl champions to make the move to Texas.

Evan had his own idea, which would be to bring the Chiefs to New York City, giving the area a third team to follow.

"I know it'll never ever happen, but this would be awesome," Evan said. "Out on Long Island, or Manhattan, or even Queens, they said, 'Let's build a new, beautiful, retractable roof stadium. We could get the Final Four, WrestleMania, whatever big event you want to get, and let's attract the Kansas City Chiefs.'

"I'm a Jet fan forever, and you're a Giant fan forever. But I will tell you this, with all the confidence. If they put a football stadium on Long Island, or Manhattan, or even Queens, and that team happened to be a dynasty, they would sell out every game."

A third team in the vicinity of the Big Apple would be unprecedented, but Evan is confident that, given the sport and given the current standing of the team that would be making the hypothetical move, the games would sell out every Sunday.

"If you had a 70,000 seat stadium on Long Island? It's football!" Evan said. "Football, the sheer popularity this sport has…I don't think we would be willing to pay for a stadium, or that our local politicians would even do it…and I don't think they'll actually leave that area…but I think people would go."
