Evan disagreed with Kyle Shanahan’s decision to take the ball at the start of overtime on Sunday, but what infuriated him even more was the revelation after the game that several 49ers players didn’t know what the new overtime rules entailed.

“This is indefensible. The Niners are telling you they didn’t know what was going on, and the Chiefs are saying that they talked about it all the time!” Evan said. “This is a problem. This is an indictment. You have Niners saying they had no idea what the rules were!”

Multiple 49ers players told reporters after the loss that they did not know about the rules, and repeated that sentiment when asked if the coaching staff prepped them on the parameters of the new overtime format. Evan believed it was a “criminal” offense, but also one that he would expect his favorite team to make if they’re in the playoffs next season.

“I’ll tell you right now, the Jets will have no clue about the overtime rules next year,” Evan said. “Robert Saleh will have no clue like Kyle Shanahan.”
