As baseball season approaches, Evan is lamenting a potential future where the landscape of Major League Baseball looks unrecognizable.
"There is a growing steam towards something inevitably happening that will shake the core of our city forever," Evan said. "It will change relationships forever, it will change the talk at this radio station forever…and that is the growing steam of inevitability that Major League Baseball will eventually realign and have the Yankees and Mets in the same division.
"I think it's happening."
Evan says the ball will start rolling towards a division of the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, and Phillies as soon as the A's and Rays are settled into their new stadiums, and expansion begins.
"Once that happens, they are going to expand. Nashville will get a major league baseball team, and another city will get a baseball team," Evan said. "And once that happens, they are gonna realign, because Rob Manfred, and even Bud Selig, they have been eyeing this forever. And you know who else has been eyeing this forever? The players. The players don't want to travel.
"They're all gonna be close to each other geographically. You play each other 13 times a year, that means, 28 times a year, you don't even get on a plane. The players want it, the owners want it, and some of you people out there want it too, and you're wrong."
Evan wants no part of it, specifically no part of the Yankees and Mets playing within the same division.
"It's wrong. It's dirty and it's disgusting," Evan said. "I just don't think, as a city, we can deal with this. We cannot have the Yankees and Mets sharing a division…can you imagine BT and Sal? They will kill each other, and we'll have to find a new midday show."
