Evan: Patriots have surpassed Red Sox as most hated Boston team by New Yorkers

Evan put up a poll on X (formerly known as Twitter) asking New York fans, ahead of another Jets/Patriots instalment, which Boston team they hate the most.

The two leading vote getters were the Red Sox and Patriots, and Evan says New England has become Boston enemy No. 1.

"If you root for the Yankees as opposed to the Mets, your opinion on the Red Sox is greatly different. I also think that works with the Giants and Jets. The Giant fan, you beat them twice in the Super Bowl. They're just another team," Evan said. "I don't think any of us like the Celtics. Even though there are few Net fans, I don't like the Celtics, Knicks fans don't like the Celtics, and obviously in hockey, none of us like the Bruins.

"I think, to become hated, a rivalry has to last and be consistent for a very long time. The Yankee/Red Sox rivalry has become stale for a very long time. You're never going to like the Red Sox, but I don't think you've cared that much…I even think there are teams in your own division that you've come to dislike more.

"Despite how bad the Jets have been…the Patriot fan may not care about us, but I think the fact that it's Bill [Belichick], and that it's gone on so long, even though the Jets have had only one winning season in the last decade and a half, our boiling hatred for the Patriots gets worse and worse every single year. My hatred for the Patriots has only grown, despite them not being what they were four years ago."

The Yankees/Red Sox rivalry was seen as the best in all of sports a 15 years ago, but Evan says the most hated Boston team in New York is the one that will arrive in the Big Apple on Sunday.

"I think the Patriots have surpassed the Red Sox," Evan said. "I really do."
