Evan: MLB needs to step in and get Rays out of Tampa after 'embarrassing' playoff attendance

The Rays drew less than 20,000 fans to their postseason opener on Tuesday afternoon, the lowest attendance at an MLB postseason game since game seven of the infamous 1919 World Series, when many were already convinced that the series had been fixed between the Reds and White Sox.

Game two, a must win for Tampa, didn’t seem to draw much better, as the ESPN announcers were even taking shots at the amount of open seats in park.

The Rays have always struggled to draw fans, but Evan says this playoff turnout has reached a new low, and it’s time to get the team out.

“That’s embarrassing. Rob Manfred has to think long and hard about overruling the new stadium and getting them out of Tampa Bay,” Evan said. “This is embarrassing. We can’t have a baseball franchise in Tampa.

“I love baseball too much. We can’t have this.”

A new stadium was recently approved in the same area as Tropicana Field, so in all likelihood, the Rays are staying put for the long haul. Evan, who has had his feuds with the Rays this season (Taylor Walls? What??), hopes that can somehow be voided.

“It’s a bad location,” Evan said. “They’re a dopey franchise that just needs to go away, I’m sick of them. Send them to Montreal. They deserve another chance.”
