Evan: Should ballparks, concessions stay open after games to combat shorter game times?
The Yankees dispatched the struggling Marlins with remarkable efficiency on Monday night, taking the series in the Bronx in just two hours and one minute.
Even with the implementation of the pitch clock, it was a remarkably quick game, as the 7-0 victory was the fastest Yankee game since 1992.
With that in mind, Evan wonders if it's time for ballparks to make drastic changes to that fans don't feel like they're spending hundreds of dollars to go a game where they only spend a short amount of time.
"Baseball teams should keep their stadiums open for an extra hour after games to let people enjoy the night," Evan said. "Also, maybe we should reconsider when we're closing down concession stands. I think it should be more about time and not what inning, so we make sure people are still having a good time."
Evan noted that alcohol sales are different, as the priority should be making sure everyone gets home safely, but why not keep concession stands open longer, even after the final out is recorded? Would it help keep fans coming, and stop fans from weighing paying good money to sit in traffic, sit through security lines, and sit in more traffic afterward for just two hours at a ballgame?
Morash says it's "nuts," but Evan isn't dismissing the idea.
"We're not getting rid of the pitch clock so you can spend more time in the stadium. I'm not in favor of that," Evan said. "But maybe we allow these stadiums to stay open a little longer."
