It’s widely-known that Evan Roberts was a radio prodigy even before he was a teenager, and that he was a long-time listener of WFAN before he joined the station in his early-20s – but what you might not know is that he once invited Steve Somers over to the Roberts house for Thanksgiving Dinner???
Indeed, when Evan was 12 – which, by our count, makes this Thanksgiving 1995 – he wrote in to Schmooze to invite him for a holiday dinner, as Steve had joked earlier that week that he was going to be alone for Thanksgiving…and Steve read his letter on the air on that Turkey Day morning!

“My mom’s cooking is great and you can watch football with my dad,” Evan’s letter to Schmooze read.
Schmooze’s response?
“P.S., Let’s Go Icelanders he writes! What is that? It may be apropos maybe to go over to Evan’s house and have turkey, since he’s an Icelanders fans, but I thought tonight, Icelanders fans were going to only have trout!”
Steve also presciently noted that “someday, the Icelanders will be good, and a game against the Rangers will be a lot more competitive and fun to watch.”
