The Giants selected Maryland DB Deonte Banks in Round 1, grabbed Minnesota center John Michael Schmitz in Round 2, and then traded up for Tennessee WR Jalin Hyatt in Round 3.
Big Blue entered Day 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft with four picks remaining: their own five and seven, a six acquired from Kansas City in the Kadarius Toney deal, and a compensatory seventh-round pick, one of two compensatory picks the Giants got for a net-loss of two qualified free agents last offseason.
Get a look at all of their Day 3 picks below, and keep listening to WFAN all weekend for Draft reaction – and tune in Monday to hear Boomer & Gio, Tiki & Tierney, and Carton & Roberts wrap it all up!
ROUND 5, NO. 172 OVERALL: RB Eric Gray, Oklahoma
Gray was Second Team All-Big 12 last season after amassing 1,366 yards, the ninth-best total in school history, and 11 TD. He spent his first two years at Tennessee and had 3,089 yards and 21 TD in four seasons – two each in Knoxville and Norman – and averaged 5.6 yards per carry in his career. He also had 99 catches for 827 yards and 5 TD on 121 career targets, so he could be an option as a third-down back right away.
ROUND 6, NO. 209 OVERALL: CB Tre Hawkins III, Old Dominion
Hawkins started all 25 games he played in two seasons at ODU, following his transfer from Trinity Valley College in the JUCO ranks. He set a program record for tackles by a cornerback in 2021 (76) and finished 2022 with 57 tackles, two interceptions, and eight passes defensed.
ROUND 7, NO. 243 OVERALL: DT Jordon Riley, Oregon
With their first of two seventh-rounders, the Giants got a 6-foot-5, 325-pounder who can clog the middle in Riley, who had quite a journey to get to New York. A six-year collegian, Riley spent his first two years at North Carolina, redshirting as a sophomore before dropping down to the JUCO ranks for one season. He transferred to Nebraska and spent two seasons with the Cornhuskers before using his extra year of COVID eligibility as a grad transfer at Oregon, where he started all 13 games for the Ducks and had 21 total tackles (1.5 for loss), a half-sack, and one pass breakup.
ROUND 7, NO. 254 OVERALL: S Gervarrius Owens, Houston
Big Blue adds a third DB in this draft in Owens, a 2022 Second-Team All-AAC selection after posting 64 tackles, one interception, and eight pass breakups for Houston last season. A four-year Cougar after one season in JUCO, Owens finished his career with 171 tackles (6.5 for loss), 14 pass breakups, and four INT, and in 2022, Pro Football Focus graded him as the American’s top safety (82.5) and top cover safety (87.6).
