A caller declared the Eagles as an overrated team because of their soft schedule, which led to a discussion on Carton and Roberts.
Has the top seed in the NFC really been battle tested?
“You’re right, the Eagles, besides the division - because the division turned out to be pretty good - their schedule was not daunting,” Evan said. “But they went 14-3 and only lost one game when their starting quarterback was healthy. So while it’s fair to say the Bears stink, the Titans weren’t any good…you’re not wrong about it, but they still went out and won every game. I can’t penalize them for beating the teams they’re supposed to beat.”
Carton agreed with Evan, that while the Eagles’ schedule was hardly a gauntlet, they also did what a good team would do, which was cruise to the best record in the conference and take advantage of inferior opponents.
Still, that easier schedule could become a factor on Saturday if Philly finds itself in a tough battle with the rising Giants.
“Nobody is disagreeing that their schedule was easy, but I can’t knock them for it,” Craig said. “I think you can say this: we don’t know how good they are when they have to play really good competition in consecutive weeks…but they didn’t get to pick their opponents, and they did what they were supposed to do.
“He’s right about this: I don’t know how good the Eagles are. They haven’t had to beat a lot of really good teams.”
