The New York Giants are 0-5, one of three remaining winless teams in the NFL, but if there was a column for moral victories, they’d be well into the black.
No such thing, as linebacker Blake Martinez noted in his bi-weekly hit on Joe & Evan’s Giants Report, but this quote sums up the attitude of the team right now:
“Once we get this thing rolling and firing on all cylinders, a lot of good things can and will happen.”
Despite the record, the Giants could realistically be much better, as they have led or been within a score in the fourth quarter of four of their five losses. And that, Martinez said, is one of the most frustrating aspects of the situation the team is in.
“One hundred percent, one of the tough points from Sunday is that we felt that could be our breakthrough moment. We know once we get this thing rolling and firing on all cylinders, playing complementary football, a lot of good things can happen and will happen,” Martinez said. “All of us as Giants, we just want results; we want to win, not to come back each week and saying we improved but it wasn’t enough.”
In asking about the mood of the team, Evan wouldn’t mention the Jets by name, only saying “some 0-5 teams might have players who have already packed it in.” But don’t worry, Big Blue faithful, that’s not happening in both home locker rooms at MetLife Stadium.
“Oh yeah, that’s the best part of this team; this is one of the best teams I’ve been around, in terms of work ethic and ability to try to get better every day,” Martinez said. “Everyone is pushing each other, and no matter what’s happening…we want results, but regardless of what our record is, each guy is always trying to improve. That’s something that will keep carrying us forward, and once we break through that wall, it will show.”
The Giants are still just two games behind 2-3 Dallas for the NFC East lead, and with four of their next five games being divisional tilts, anything can happen.
