Amid reports that the Giants are done with Daniel Jones, many have crushed the quarterback’s four-year contract that he signed after the best season of his career.
While the $160 million may have been a lot, Boomer and Gio agree that Big Blue didn’t have any alternatives at the time, and signing Jones was still the right move.
“The fact that they made it was amazing, and the fact that they won a game was amazing,” Gio said of Jones’ career year in his first season under Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen. “It was a tremendous ride.
“Looking back at that time, I wouldn’t have done anything different. The Daniel Jones money was a lot, we said it at the time. But as far as signing him, I said it back then. You had to do it.”
Boomer agreed, that while Jones’ first season playing under his new deal was a disaster, it was still the right move at the time by the Giants to give him his payday.
“There was no other alternative for Daniel, and he was coming off a great season,” Boomer said. “He had a great playoff game at Minnesota. It wasn’t his fault that the game in Philadelphia didn’t go as well. Philadelphia was a great team.”
