As the Giants enjoy a bye week, Boomer and Gio wondered just how the Tommy DeVito story will end.
For now, DeVito is a local sensation, as hundreds of fans waited in line on Tuesday to see the New Jersey native in Wayne and sign autographs. But does he really have staying power, or will he be a flash in the pan that quickly fades?
“One is, he plays unbelievably well, like out-of-his-mind great, and his story grows and grows to the point where they have to start him at quarterback next season,” Gio said. “There is where he plays well, wins a couple more games, he is OK, but shows you he is more of a backup, and is a backup to Daniel Jones next season or whoever may be the starting quarterback. Or - which I don’t want to see, and I hope doesn’t happen - it just spirals all the way down and he ends up going back to the practice squad, and that’s the end of that.”
Boomer had other potential avenues, one that he would like to see, and one that he wouldn’t.
“Or, he gets moved on from because he had success here, like Mike White did,” Boomer said. “I hope that doesn’t happen. I hope that’s not in the cards.
“What I want to see…I hope he plays his way into the hearts of the Giant fans and puts pressure on the coaching staff to have a little bit of a quarterback controversy at the beginning of next season. Daniel Jones will feel that pressure…Knowing Daniel Jones, he will respond to that. He will want to get his job back and go out and play, and play well. From where I sit, I think it’s good for the Giants to have this happen.”
