Now that the Giants reportedly have not placed the franchise tag on Saquon Barkley, both Boomer and Gio agree that the running back should already have his sights set on playing elsewhere in 2024.
“I don’t believe he should be staying anywhere in this area,” Gio said.
“If I were him,” Boomer replied. “I’d be on the first plane out of here.”
It is nothing against Barkley, in fact, quite the opposite. Boomer and Gio don’t see the Giants being ready to truly contend any time soon, so a player of Barkley’s caliber should go somewhere that has a strong chance of making him a winner in the short term.
“I don’t blame the Giants for handling the way they handled it,” Gio said. “I don’t blame Saquon for going somewhere else, but this is the perfect time for them to split…someone’s going to want him, someone’s going to pay him. The Giants don’t need to be paying for a running back, because they’re in a full rebuild.”
