One of the main talking points following the Giants’ 40-0 loss to the Cowboys was why Daniel Jones was still in the game in the fourth quarter, when the loss was inevitable, the rain was pouring down, and the offensive line couldn’t provide a shred of pass protection.
Many fans criticized Brian Daboll for leaving Jones in the game, but Boomer and Gio understood the decision.
“It’s almost like saying it’s his fault [if you benched him],” Boomer said. “There’s a psychological part to being benched…from Daniel’s perspective, you have to remember, he’s now signed a huge contract, and he wants to live up to it.
“I understand maybe taking him out in the fourth quarter, but he is not gonna want that to happen, especially after signing that contract.”
Gio also agreed that Jones likely wanted to stay in the game and try to get something going on offense, and after signing his four-year extension in the offseason, he likely won’t be coming out of any blowouts moving forward.
“You want to get something going, some sort of positivity at the end of that game and not get shut out,” Gio said. “When Brian Daboll said he wanted to get something positive going, I believe him.
“When you’re getting paid $40 million, you don’t sit in the fourth quarter, regardless of the score.”
