Boomer & Gio: Should Giants trade back and stockpile draft picks?
As has become seemingly a tradition here in New York, Boomer and Gio spent time during Monday’s show discussing the odds of the Giants getting the top pick in next year’s draft to hopefully find their next franchise quarterback.
For Gio, hitting on a future superstar at the game’s most important position feels like the only way Big Blue gets back to being a contender after years of futility.
“The only way you can dig yourself out of this is by drafting one of these guys and having it work out,” Gio said.
But a caller chimed in and wondered if New York would be better off trading its top pick to move back and stockpile other premium draft picks, giving themselves an opportunity to address multiple roster needs in one move, as there are other issues on the team outside of quarterback.
But Gio didn’t like what that could mean for 2025, and perhaps even 2026, if the Giants continue to put off bringing in a top rookie quarterback for Brian Daboll to finally develop.
“So you’re gonna go through another bad season of Daboll and Schoen by trading back?” Gio said.
Boomer countered that there would be another intriguing top quarterback available in next year’s draft, with relation to the last Giants quarterback who won a Super Bowl.
“In two years, there will be someone in the draft,” Boomer said. “His name is Arch Manning.”
Gio doesn’t love that idea, given the fact there is a chance to get a quarterback in the upcoming draft in Shedeur Sanders who has already proven it at the collegiate level, while Manning hasn’t played much at all.
“To say there’s no one in the draft this year that will help out,” Gio said. “But Arch Manning will when he doesn’t even start yet, that doesn’t make sense.”
