Boomer says franchise tag is 'absolute insult' to Saquon Barkley: 'I wouldn't sign it either'

Saquon Barkley told reporters on Sunday that he isn’t ruling out a holdout into the season if an agreement on a new deal isn’t reached by July 17, and Boomer doesn’t blame him one bit.

“I understand Saquon’s frustration, and why he wouldn’t want to sign this tag. I wouldn’t sign it either,” Boomer said. “But he may not have any other choice but to sign it.

“If I were him, I wouldn’t want to play for $10.09 million. That’s an insult. That’s an absolute insult to everything he does, the injuries he’s already had, the rehabs he’s gone through.”

But, as Boomer noted, Barkley may not have another choice, despite what he’s given to the franchise, because of the way running backs are valued in the league, or more accurately, how they’re not valued.

“I hate the fact that players like him don’t get paid and don’t get compensation,” Boomer said. “Because those are the guys that are most likely to get injured.”
