Brian Daboll has faced heavy criticism over the past 48 hours, as the Giants were steamrolled by the rival Cowboys to send Big Blue further into the depths of a lost season where tanking now feels like the most productive route.
Some are even bringing up Daboll’s job security, but Boomer wants to remind everyone the situation that Daboll is facing.
“This is just an impossible situation, guys. It’s impossible!” Boomer said, noting the quarterback dilemma with Tommy DeVito and injuries to the offensive line. “If you want to tell me the decision about Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley and that other stuff, we can discuss all that. But the present situation for this team right now is impossible.”
Gio noted that the Giants were looking awful even before Daboll had to turn to DeVito, but Jones missed significant time with a neck injury before a torn ACL ended his season, while Saquon Barkley missed multiple games with an ankle injury, and Andrew Thomas, arguably the offense’s most valuable player, missed extended time with a hamstring injury.
Given the current circumstances, Boomer says Daboll can’t be expected to do much more.
“If they win one or two more games under the current set of circumstances,” Boomer said. “It would be a feather in the cap of the coaching staff.”
