Joe Schoen deflected and opportunity to call out or criticize Daniel Jones during his press conference on Tuesday, pointing to several areas of the team that need to improve, and that are responsible for the Giants’ 2-8 record.
But Boomer says the blame game is a simple one, and it does start with Jones, regardless of what the general manager says.
“It really comes down to one position,” Boomer said. “It’s not like they would be steamrolling everybody, but if you put Patrick Mahomes on this team, it would be a completely different outcome. If you put Joe Burrow on this team, Josh Allen, completely different.
“It comes back to the most important position, the highest-paid position in the sport. The Giants, unfortunately - and they probably know this - don’t have that guy.”
Jones made some egregious throws in Sunday’s overtime loss to the lowly Panthers, and took a sack on a third-down flea flicker that was very costly. It has been that kind of decision making that has irritated Boomer this season, and he believes the Giants would be in a much different spot with elevated quarterback play.
So, while there are other areas that have not been up to par when it comes to the Giants roster, the quarterback is clearly the biggest issue.
“It’s unfortunate for Daniel, but it’s the realities of the league,” Boomer said. “If I’m watching the tape, then that guy is not playing. That’s all there is to it.”
