The Jets enter the season with monumental expectations, but Boomer has some big-time expectations for the Giants and their quarterback in 2023.
“Daniel Jones needs to have a 4,000-4,500-yard season, a 70 percent completion percentage, and 30 touchdowns,” Boomer said. “And he’s gotta keep his interceptions down.
“We all saw the impact that Brian Daboll has had on Daniel Jones. We saw it in Week 1 against Tennessee, when he got in his face after he threw a red zone interception in that game. From that moment on, Daniel Jones saw the importance of protecting the football, especially in the red zone.’”
Jones had a career year in his first season under Daboll, but even still, he finished with 3,205 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and a 67.2 completion percentage. He would have to add another 800 passing yards, double his touchdowns, and increase his completion percentage despite needing to throw a lot more balls to meet those other landmarks. It’s a tall order, but Boomer believes Jones is capable.
“They’re gonna ask Daniel to do more this year. They’re gonna ask him to throw more this year,” Boomer said. “He’s gotta take that next step. He’s got a quality offensive line, he’s got good receivers, he’s got Darren Waller if he can stay healthy, and of course, he’s got Saquon.
“I’m expecting a huge jump for him this year statistically.”
