Brian Daboll non-committal on Daniel Jones returning this season after ruling him out against Jets

Daniel Jones has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Jets, and Brian Daboll seemed less committal on Friday when asked if his starting quarterback would return this season.

“Again, I’m not gonna go back to that,” Daboll said. “I’ll just say he's getting better, we'll see where he is next week.”

Asked again up front if Jones would return this season, Daboll repeated his refrain.

“He's getting better, we'll see where he is next week,” Daboll said. “I don’t have a crystal ball with injuries, but he is getting better, and we’ll see where he is next week.”

Jones said earlier this week that there were still hurdles to clear with team doctors, and those clearly were not cleared, as he will miss a third straight game since leaving with a neck injury after being sacked in a loss to the Dolphins. Jones, who signed a four-year contract this past offseason, had his season cut short two years ago due to a neck injury, and given the change in outlook from Daboll, Jones missing the rest of this season due to another neck injury cannot be ruled out.

“Yep,” Daboll said, agreeing that his sentiments on Jones on Friday were less definitive than when he was first injured. “Again, I just go up with the information that I get. Today he was out, he’s getting better, and we’ll see where he is next week.”
