Malik Nabers sounded off after Sunday’s loss to Tampa Bay, expressing frustration over his lack of targets early in the game, and telling reporters to ask Brian Daboll why the rookie receiver wasn’t more of a focal point for the offense in the 30-7 loss.
BT and Sal took exception to how Nabers handled things when surrounded by cameras and microphones, which has been a bit of a trend for the No. 6 overall pick.
“He’s standing there like a six-year veteran bagging 115 catches a year, like ‘What do you want from me? It ain’t my fault.’ Dude, you’re a rookie,” BT said. “He’s a kid, I’m not gonna go nuts on him. But the optics…like he’s a seven-year vet who’s going to the Hall of Fame. dude, I know you’re very talented, but you’re a rookie.
“At least have a little sense where you put the team before yourself...this is not good.”
Sal expressed concern earlier in the season that Nabers was showing similar traits to Odell Beckham Jr. off the field in his early years in New York, but now, the argument can be made that Nabers is handling things worse than Beckham did before his exit.
“I do think he’s been selfish in a lot of those postgame scrums,” Sal said. “And would you say he’s been respectful of the head coach? Absolutely not…as a rookie, you can’t be openly disrespectful like that.
“For me, that reminds me of Odell Beckham Jr. when he did that years ago with Tom Coughlin…Nabers sounds worse.”
