BT has admittedly done a 180 on his take of the Giants needing to move on from Saquon Barkley.
An unprecedented salary cap spike can have that impact.
Now that NFL teams have a surprising amount of extra spending at their disposal following a historic rise in the league’s cap, BT says there is now money available to pay Barkley what he deserves, while also not diluting the ability to address other positions of need.
“I have now completely changed my mind about Saquon Barkley and the Giants,” BT said. “If they are unable, or unwilling, to come up with a long-term contract for Saquon Barkley that is palatable for both…then that’s just bad on the Giants.
“The original projection for the 2024 salary cap was right around $242 million. Over the weekend, it was revealed that it is up to $255.4 million…the highest jump in league history...I’m not saying you design something that is reckless and crippling forever…this gives the Giants a window to make sure Saquon is here for a couple more years.”
