BT: Daniel Jones showed he gives Giants chance to win with pieces around him

Brandon Tierney gave props to Daniel Jones for once again looking improved on Sunday, completing 24 of 34 passing attempts for 236 yards and two touchdowns, and didn’t throw a pick for the second week in a row.

It was the second straight game that Jones posted a quarterback rating of at least 100.0, and BT says it should be a sign of encouragement that he could be at least serviceable, or even get closer to the quarterback he was in 2022.

“Every game doesn’t have to be a referendum on Daniel Jones’ career,” BT said. “You watch Red Zone, you do fantasy, you bounce around and watch these games, and how many quarterbacks were truly better than Daniel Jones on Sunday? The answer is not many.

“You give him a functional team around him...give him a little time and a couple of weapons, he’s going to give his team a chance to compete...I watched Deshaun Watson, and I’m like, ‘No matter what they do, this guy is done.’ I watch Daniel Jones and I’m like ‘OK, you give him some weapons and a little more time, and he’s got a chance.’”

Sal pushed back strongly on that idea, and says the Giants offense would have looked a lot better had Jones not missed several throws, or had been bailed out on a penalty on what would have been a costly interception in the first half.

“Daniel Jones stinks. He’s always stunk,” Sal said. “You watch that game yesterday...he stinks. If the Giants had a real quarterback that could actually throw the ball with some accuracy, it would have been a blowout. It wouldn’t have been competitive.”

Jones was awful in Week 1, but BT has seen a lot better play over the last two games, and believes some fans have already formulated their opinion on the sixth-year quarterback, and perhaps two good games won’t be enough to garner any praise.

“When the throws aren’t there, we illuminate them,” BT said. “When the good throws are there, we ignore him.”
