BT: Giants changes will come if this year is 'dysfunctional' like last season
As the Giants get set to begin year three under Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll, BT says the current regime is not on the stable ground that many fans believe.
“I believe it’s a lot more up in the air than other people do,” BT said. “It’s also based on the notion - the fact- that Bill Belichick is out there, and the owner said he expects significant improvement this year.”
The Giants have had drastic and frequent turnover at leadership positions in recent years, and John Mara has openly craved stability within the organization. But BT says that will go out the window if this year looks anything like last year, and leads to ownership taking a closer look at how this regime has performed since taking over in 2022.
“Since the Giants started 6-1...the Giants are 9-17-1,” BT said. “You measure teams and head coach/GM tandems a couple ways. Do you win? How do you do against the best teams in your division? The Giants are 1-8 against the Cowboys and eagles since they came here, and most have been mop jobs...that is problematic.
“Stop wasting time on the Gettleman blame game. I don’t want to hear it. that’s over...there are eight players on the roster from the Gettleman era, and two are the best players on the team [Andrew Thomas and Dexter Lawrence].”
So, if this season unravels like last season, with few wins and multiple blowout losses to division rivals, BT wouldn’t be surprised if changes are made at the top yet again.
“You’re on your second defensive coordinator, there’s been some turmoil...there are only so many ways to pivot,” BT said. “I like Brian Daboll and I believe in Brian Daboll. I like Joe Schoen and I believe in Joe Schoen...but if there is an element of dysfunction like there was a year ago, change is coming.”
