The Giants have been one of the brightest surprises in the NFL this season, with Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll immediately injecting newfound optimism into a franchise that has been mired in losing over the last five years.
But the plucky underdog label has now evolved into a team trying to solidify a playoff spot in the second half of the season, and BT says those playoff hopes will be dashed if Big Blue can’t take care of business against the lowly Texans on Sunday.
“When you have a blank canvas, there is a renewed energy, optimism, and that optimism was backed up by these early surprising results,” BT said. “You get to the point of the season, and we’re here now, it’s gotta stop being about the cute story of overachieving, the little engine that could.
“Don’t take this the wrong way, Giants fans. If you don’t win this weekend, you’re not going to the playoffs. The Giants are a couple weeks away from a real dose of reality in terms of how far they are away from being, in terms of talent, not coaching or direction, among the top teams in football.”
With a tough schedule ahead after Houston on Sunday and the Lions the following week, BT says a loss on Sunday would set the Giants back too far, and the team just isn’t good enough yet to make up for it against superior teams, many of them division rivals.
“You’re gonna have to go to Dallas,” BT said. “You’re gonna have to play the Eagles, not once, but twice. We can laugh about the Commanders, but they’re not bad…if the Giants don’t win this game, and I think they will, but if they don’t win this game, they’re not going to the playoffs.”
