As Penn State gets set to take on Notre Dame in Miami with a National Championship berth on the line, BT says the matchup between the Nittany Lions and the Fighting Irish will be the biggest game of the Giants season because of what it could mean for New York’s future at quarterback.
“It wasn’t Dallas or Philly or any other game they played,” BT said. “I don’t know if Drew Allar is gonna come out, but if you’re not dialed into every snap from this young man tonight, you’re doing yourself a massive disservice.
“He doesn’t run like a Josh Allen, but he’s certainly more nimble than a Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. The knock on him is that he didn’t play a ton as a freshman and has fewer than 30 starts...but if he comes out tonight and does well against Notre Dame’s defense and declares for the draft...now, everything opens up for the Giants. They don’t necessarily have to trade up and give up draft stock to get Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward, whom I don’t love anyway.”
Allar said he would be returning to Penn State before the College Football Playoff began, but he has since elevated his game on the biggest stage, leading his team to the CFP semifinals in Miami. Allar could change his mind and declare for the draft as long as it’s before the deadline (which is either Jan. 14 or 25 depending on when Penn State’s season ends), and BT believes he could if he has another big game against an elite - but now shorthanded - Irish defense.
“Of the three players...who I would rather have in 2-3 years, it’s Drew Allar,” BT said of the top quarterbacks potentially available in the draft. “You just need him to come out, and he’s not coming out unless he plays well tonight.”
