Sam Darnold flopped in his playoff debut, taking a career-high nine sacks while throwing for 245 yards in a blowout loss to the Rams.
For Darnold, coming off his first-ever Pro Bowl season, it was his second straight dud in two games where everything was on the line, from the No. 1 seed in the NFC to a spot in the divisional round.
Despite the falling stock for Darnold, BT says he would take the former Jet on the Giants next season.
“I have no problem with Sam Darnold going to the Giants next year,” BT said. “I never though Sam - even at the apex of his play this season - was as good as some people were starting to believe. I just viewed his performance with a little trepidation...but I also don’t think he’ll be as bad moving forward as he was [Monday] night.”
Darnold has already played - and failed - in New York as a former No. 3 overall pick for the Jets, but he had the best season of his career in Minnesota, and BT believes Big Blue might be able to get him for a good price.
“I don’t think you’ll have that many teams vying for Sam Darnold,” BT said. “If the Giants can get him for $22-25 million, which is fairly paltry for a quarterback nowadays, you wouldn’t want Sam Darnold?
“There’s no home run solution, so you have to be creative...what’s the answer?”
Sal Licata wants nothing to do with Darnold back in New York, and believes it would only end in disaster.
“I want no part of that...he’s not very good,” Sal said. “I would want no part of Sam Darnold, not to mention in New York and the media pressure that he’s already dealt with, or that building, and throwing the football outside of a dome.”
