As the Giants sit at 1-4, BT still believes it is too early to evaluate Joe Schoen’s capabilities as a general manager. But, if you take the product up to this point, it doesn’t make for a glowing review.
“He hasn’t done very well,” BT said. “He had two top-10 picks, and neither kid can play right now. He whiffed on both of those guys.”
Neither Kayvon Thibodeaux or Evan Neal has shown to be worth their draft status so far, as Thibodeaux, while showing recent signs of improvement, has yet to break out like the Giants hoped, and Neal has been disastrous. It is not a good look for Schoen.
“That’s not a nitpick. That’s an obvious reaction…did he draft Andrew Thomas? Who did he draft?” BT said. “I’m not saying Schoen is without value, but let’s not say he built that team last year. Did he draft Dexter Lawrence? Did he get Leonard Williams? Did he draft Daniel Jones or Saquon? Who did he draft?”
Sal countered that if Schoen doesn’t get credit for the players he inherited and their involvement in last season’s success, he shouldn’t be criticized for that same core struggling this year. But BT didn’t agree.
“When you’re in year two, your fingerprints are more embedded in the product,” BT said. “You either extended guys or got rid of guys.
“It’s not too early to have an opinion, and my opinion right now is that we’ve overstated what Joe Schoen has done.”
